J. Jerome "Jerry" Nykiel

J. Jerome "Jerry" Nykiel, of Elmira, NY, and Pulteney, NY, passed away unexpectedly at work on Friday, October 8, 2010. He was born on May 11, 1952, in Elmira, NY, to Elizabeth Teresa (Tinkler) Nykiel (Deceased) and Joseph Nykiel. He was predeceased by uncles, William J. Tinkler of Hartford, CT, Theodore Nickel of Hudson, PA, Walter Nickel of Somerdale, NJ; aunts, Eleanor Nickel of Hudson, PA, Virginia Tinkler of Elmira, NY; grandparents, Helen Majchrzak and Franczek Nickel (Nykiel) of Hudson, PA; and grandparents, John and Teresa Tinkler of Elmira, NY. He is survived by his father, Joseph of Elmira; brothers, Vincent (Janet) Nykiel of Elmira and Kenneth (Jean) Nykiel of North Canton, OH; nephew, Daniel Joseph Nykiel of Canton, MI; niece, Katherine Elizabeth Nykiel of Findlay, OH; first cousins, David (Maribeth) Nickel and Beverly (Kevin) Myers of NJ; as well as several cousins in the Elmira area. He attended Southside High School, graduated Cum Laude from Niagara University, and obtained a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Finance, University of Pennsylvania. Jerry was a longterm employee of John G. Ullman and Associates of Corning, NY, where he served as their Director of Securities Trading. With his strong personal interest in analysis and securities, Jerry became a Senior Associate in Securities Research and Portfolio Management in July 2009. Jerry also served in a number of other management roles, including being a member of the Company's Operations Committee. Prior to that he was employed by Sunmaster Corp. of Corning, NY. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Mary's Church in Elmira, NY, a member of the Elmira Hibernians and the Polish National Alliance. During the past four decades, Jerry spent countless hours researching, writing, and lecturing about genealogy. He was an avid gardener, growing his own plants from seed, including heirloom varieties. Jerry thoroughly enjoyed following the sports teams of his alma maters, the NY Yankees, and spending time at his cottage on Stone Point, Keuka Lake. Additionally, he was an avid reader. Arrangements are being handled by Olthof Funeral Home, Inc., 1050 Pennsylvania Avenue, Elmira, NY. Viewing hours will be at the funeral home from 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, and a Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 14, 2010, at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Fulton and Franklin St. in Elmira, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Church, Elmira, NY, or the Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Cancer Research Foundation, P.O.
