Worked for the Southport Highway Dept. from 1970 - 1974 when I was hired by the Steele Memorial Library to drive the bookmobile. Over the next 33 years I went from being the driver working with 2 fellow employees to being the only employee. In that period of time I wrote specs. for a new vehicle in 1985 which is still on the road. I retired in 2007 with 37 years in the retirement system and work harder now than ever.
While I was raising a family I spent 8 years as a member of the Southport Town Council and worked part-time at Olthof Funeral Home along with volunteering with other community organizations. Since retiring I work on my properties, spend time with family and friends and keep constantly busy. I don't know how I did all those things years ago.
